Film Ten Bizarre Ethnically-Challenged Casting Choices

Posted by Ned Lannamann on Tue, May 6 at 11:32 AM

Hot on the heels of his triumph as Iron Man, Robert Downey Jr’s next role is as a (white) method actor who plays a black character in Tropic Thunder, the upcoming film directed by Ben Stiller:

This also comes accompanied with news of Mike Myers’ upcoming film, in which Myers plays The Love Guru, a portrayal that has some members of the Hindu community a little wrankled:

So in that spirit, check out Cineleet’s list of Ten Bizarre Ethnically-Challenged Casting Choices, which includes favorites like John Wayne as Genghis Khan, Al Pacino as Tony Montana, Ricardo Montalban as Khan, and everyone’s favorite, Highlander.

And, of course, who could forget the mind-bogglingly racist character of Holly Golightly’s Japanese neighbor, as played by Mickey Rooney in Breakfast at Tiffany’s:

Check out all ten of them here .

How about Marlon Brando as Emiliano Zapata in Viva Zapata! ? http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0045296/

Don't you say one bad word about my Highlander, Ned Lannamann.

Not.one.freaking.word.

I'd be pissed too if that bitch kept ringing my buzzer rather than keeping up with her own damn key!

"...which Myers plays The Love Guru, a portrayal that has some members of the Hindu community a little wrankled:..."

Let me see, White people appropriating practices and ideologies from the Hindu community... Hmm... Sounds like a large portion of White people in Portland.

Maybe the Hindu community is just pissed because Mike Meyers 5th grade humor is just not funny.

Oh, jeez, let's not offend any minorities because, heaven knows they're on the verge of a nervous breakdown and white males are depicted as paragons of intelligence and dignity on all of the sitcoms.
