Portland Mercury Rose Festival Camp-Out: The 11 o’clock Hour

Posted by Amy J. Ruiz on Fri, Jun 6 at 11:26 PM

We’ve started the fire, and are counting down to s’mores at midnight.

How weird is it that we’ve got a bonfire going in a parking spot on SW Broadway? (Psst: We ran it by Randy Leonard when he visited, and he said we’re a-ok. Apparently so: Cops have passed without even a second glance. Who knew?)

Also, a woman in a jeep just pulled up, and gave us this bouquet of illuminated roses. “It’s the Rose Festival!” she said gleefully. Apparently Rose Festival volunteers gave out a few thousand of them up and down the route. Another guy just stopped by, with two left: He says there are about 1500 campers up and down MLK alone. (Down in the corner, you can see our watering can. That’s for fire safety.)

Erik’s finally going to start reading the Great Gatsby.

Meanwhile, I'm ensconced at home where it's neither chilly nor rainy, and where upon the morning there will be no surrounding crush of endless numbers of stupid people.

Seems to be some inconsistency with these blog posts. Is it "camp-out"? or "camp out"? ask Grammar Puppy? or maybe Punctuation Parakeet?

Copy chief Courtney Ferguson is here, and has only consumed a moderate amount of rum. So I'm going to believe her when she says "it's a noun, so it's one word, no hyphen." This is why she's on staff. The paper would be a wreck otherwise.

You guys are such a bunch of fucking dorks.
