The Future of Live/Work for Artists in Portland: A Conversation
If you haven't ventured out to Milepost 5 (Gavin Shettler's new long-term artistic and economic sanctuary) yet, here's your opportunity. On Tuesday evening, the campus will host a panel discussion addressing the need for affordable live/work solutions for Portland's scads of artists. Shettler has put together a panel that speaks to the interests of developers, local government, and artists, including Mayor-Elect Sam Adams as well as artists Jenene Nagy and TJ Norris. JOHN MOTLEY

Too much to do tonight. I'll be hitting the panel, but it was a tough call--today is also the first day of the JAW fest at Portland Center Stage, featuring a reading from local playwright Matt Zrebski as part of the Made in Oregon reading series. It's also the last day of the Miss Teen Earth pageant, not that I considered going to that or anything.

(OK, yes I did:

"In following the traditions of Miss Earth, titles will be awarded:
Teen Earth United States
Teen Air United States
Teen Water United States
Teen Fire United States
Teen Eco United States
which represent the elements of Mother Earth." But I guess I'm an "arts reporter," not a "funny things teenagers do" reporter. So Milepost 5 it is.)
