Books Booty Call: Uncensored

This Sunday marks the triumphant return of the Booty Call reading series, organized by occasional Mercury contributor Kevin Sampsell, which invites writers/bloggers/zinesters to share their filthiest stories with a well-lubricated (drunk! I mean to say) audience.
Steve Almond, Jami Attenberg, Melissa Lion, and Zach Plague will all be participating. I interviewed all four of them for a piece in this week's paper (online here)--due to the constraints of our so-last-century print version, I had to cut their responses pretty heavily, but you can read the complete, unedited versions of those interviews on the Books page of our website, which cares not for your petty "word counts." Check out the event poster, drawn by Powell's employee Jonathan Hill, after the jump.
What are some of the do's and don'ts of writing filthy? Favorite words? Words that should never be used?
ALMOND: Genital euphemisms are almost always a bad idea. Sperm puppet and hairy taco just don't put me in the mood. Penis and vagina are buzzkills, too. Most people are so freaked about writing sex scenes that they go over the top or straight to cliches. But they shouldn't be writing about sex. They should be writing about characters in emotional danger--who just happen to be naked.
