I'm Reading American Gun Culture Report

Posted by Matt Davis on Fri, Jul 11, 2008 at 4:34 PM

Ever since I went shooting with Portland's Pink Pistols, I've been receiving lots of gun literature through the post. Such as...

americangunculturereport.jpg

American Gun Culture Report is edited and published by Ross Eliot, who as far as I can tell, has spent a lot of time on a commercial fishing boat in Alaska, and likes guns. This is the schtick:

Do you like guns but hate "gun people?" Are you uncomfortable when political "progressives" support every amendment from the Bill of Rights but the 2nd? Do you wish you could walk into a gun store in full drag and get advice on which holster will best hide a full size 1911 automatic (and spare magazine) with your fabulous outfit?

Yes, Ross, yes I do! I was only thinking the other day, "which holster is going to best hide a full size 1911 automatic (and spare magazine) with my fabulous outfit!!" It's $3 an issue, and, I would suggest, well worth a liberal Portlander's time. But then you knew I'd say that. Didn't you.

So it's for people who like guns, but don't want to be a nerd about it?

I've got the first copy of this kicking around my house somewhere. I don't remember being that impressed with it, but there was an awesome little ad for Ethanol Molotovs.

Sorry, Matt. I've known a lot of conservative "gun people" that I suspect would dress like that if they were honest with their feelings and I got confused.

Officer in Silverton shooting accused of sex abuse

07:22 AM PDT on Monday, July 14, 2008

By ADRIANE HORNER, kgw.com Staff

A Silverton Police officer, already on paid administrative leave for being involved in the shooting death of an Irish national during a burglary complaint, was arrested Sunday and charged with sex abuse.

Marion County Jail

Officer Tony Gonzalez was arrested Sunday and booked into the Marion County Jail on sex abuse charges.

Keizer Police officers said they were contacted by an adult woman and her minor daughter on Saturday afternoon.

The woman and her daughter reported multiple incidents of sexual abuse and identified Silverton Police Officer Tony Gonzalez as the suspect who committed the crimes.

The Keizer Police department contacted the Marion County District Attorney who then assigned the case to the Salem Police Department.

After investigating the allegations, Gonzalez was arrested by Salem Police officers and charged with two counts of first degree sex abuse and three counts of third degree sex abuse.

Gonzalez was taken into custody early Sunday morning and lodged at the Marion County Jail.

The two counts of first degree sex abuse are considered measure 11 offenses.

Gonzales' administrative leave is pending on the outcome of the investigation into the fatal shooting of 20-year-old Andrew Hanlon.
