One Way to Hail a Cab

Wow.

John McCain has chosen a running mate: Sarah Palin, a conservative Christian pro-life mother-of-five "hockey mom" who's also the governor of Alaska. But that last part doesn't matter, because I'm listening to her speak right now, and her political inexperience shows. She's a terrible speaker, and Joe Biden will easily destroy her in the VP debate.

But hey! She's got an 18-year-old about to head to Iraq, and an infant with down syndrome. The country's inane Christian soccer and hockey moms will LOVE her.

She says the "right reasons" for running for office are "to challenge the status quo and work for the common good." She delivered that trite line in a broken staccato.

It's going to be a long two months until November 4.

Conservative soccer moms like herself will adore her, but I'll bet the majority of Republicans are pretty dumbfounded this morning! McCain is a pretty old guy and a prime candidate for a major, stress-induced heart attack or stroke sometime during his term of office. The fact that this inexperienced former beauty queen could easily become the leader of the most powerful nation on earth should scare even the most dedicated of conservatives.

Ten bucks says the Party starts to implode over her during the next week or so, leading to Palin regretfully having to decline the nomination due to a need to spend more time with her family, be there for Alaska, etc. sometime before October. Any takers?

"Conservative soccer moms like herself will adore her..."

I'm starting to second guess that logic now. Will conservative soccer moms support a woman who has an infant with down syndrome who's also working around the clock? I could see the CSM set preferring to see Palin at home with the baby.

I was out in Lake O this morning at the Hanna Anderson Outlet store. No better place in the Portland area to get a feel for the CSM set's feelings about this. I heard women on the phone estatic that he chose a woman. The thing is I highly doubt they would consider voting for Obama so it may not really matter.

One thing you need to remember about that crowd (my SIL is one) is that the ones with money have nannies. Even if they don't work outside of the home. They are perfectly comfortable with children be raised by people other than their parents. They do make a good show at recitals and games though.

Hopefully she's a better shot than Cheney.

Now, you children play nice. Mrs. Palin has paid her dues five times over. Have you ever given birth? Has Obama? Or Biden? So don't be rude. Think of how nicely she'll re-do the White House once Mr. MCain has the big heart attack and she's in charge. And she can make brownies for the press corps. Had you thought of that?
