Anticipating Palin's Speech

Posted by Matt Davis on Wed, Sep 3, 2008 at 5:25 PM

I don't know about you, but I haven't been able to think about anything else all day...will she make a fool of herself? Will she triumph? Will she mention Jesus? Teen pregnancy? Being under an ethics investigation? Will she clarify? Or further confuse? You can catch the speech live at 7pm Oregon Time, over on CNN, meanwhile excerpts reveal she's going on the attack...

"I guess a small-town mayor is sort of like a 'community organizer,' except that you have actual responsibilities."

"Here's how I look at the choice Americans face in this election. In politics, there are some candidates who use change to promote their careers. And then there are those, like John McCain, who use their careers to promote change."

Ouch. Notice the insertion of the words "I guess" and "sort of like" in that first ripper. I guess they sound sort of colloquial, or is it straight up nassty? I'm going with nassty. But sort of, suburban nassty.

I have a horrible feeling this woman is going to win the election. You?

It's just the media momentum of the moment, is what I attribute my own (sort of) fear, I guess we might call it. I certainly hope the opposing side can generate a bit of their own momentum immediately after St. Paul cycles out of the networks...

She really hasn't had anything positive happen yet. For chrissakes McCain's staff is telling the media to quit looking into Palin's history and Republican pundits are already saying this is election is over when they think the mics are off. She can make a speech and it may help a bit...then everyone will go back to talking about her unwed pregnant daughter, etc...

Remember up north, when it was "just a mom in tennis shoes?" It's kinda like that.

"You know the only difference between a pitbull and a hockey mom? The lipstick."

Wow, poor pitbulls...

Matt -

I share your concerns. Fact of the matter is, at least here in the Midwest, there are a LOT of folks that are going to swallow this jive hook, line and sinker.

I also see a good deal of Rove-ian "If we say it's the truth, it is" rhetoric in play. Throw in a batch of MSM hatred, a splash of Bin Laden wanting to disrupt PTA meetings and a touch of class warfare and you have the all the makings of a BushCo trifecta.

Stay vigilant kids or this thing could get way the hell outta hand...

Bonus points for the Patty Murray reference, Martin.
It is like that, but way creepier.

I'm not a prude or anything, but I'm actually kind of peeved that they flew Kid Dad out for a photo op with McCain. It's one thing to screw up as a kid. It's quite another thing to get a meet and greet with a major party presidential candidate as a reward. Seriously, what kind of message does that send to kids? If you fuck up really badly--no matter what we say--you get a big prize? What's next? Having a special seating section at the GOP Convention for all of the kids who get DUIs? What a bunch of flaming, asshole hypocrites.

People should be most concerned about the real possibility of her as President. Even the greed wing of the GOP (most of it) should be $hitting their pants at that thought. That giant sucking sound will be the sound of foreign investors pulling all of their stakes out of the tent at the same time. The GOP is completely fing delusional.

I hope she keeps this rhetoric up. I am hopeful that the more she opens her mouth with attacks, she will come across as smug and whiny, thus alienating those who she was supposed to win over.
