Show 'Em Your Cans and See a Film!

Posted by Patrick Alan Coleman on Thu, Sep 25, 2008 at 4:45 PM

I know you Blogtownies love the movies. I also happen to know that you've got some great cans. No, not those kinds of cans, silly. Like, actual cans... Of food.

What do these things have in common? The Cans Film Festival! In a benefit for the Oregon Food Bank, today only, any Regal cinema will trade you a movie ticket and a small popcorn for three cans of food (or three non-perishable food items).

Do you realize what a great fucking deal that is? Three cans of soup will run you something like four dollars. A movie ticket and a small popcorn will set you back like three grand. Okay, so I'm exaggerating. Still, do you realize what a great fucking deal that is?

If that's not enough to motivate you to do a good deed for your fellow Oregonians, then you're dead to me. Seriously.

So do everyone a favor and check out the movie times, get some non-perishable food items and get thee to a Regal cinema. I'll be seeing Choke, which is in no way ironic.

Brilliant! Love it... cans for movies... yay!!!!!!!! Choke (2008) is from Portland all-star writer Chuck Palaniuk. SEE IT and prepare to laugh loudly!!! Another local-grown, topical film to check out is Split: A Divided America (2008). It's a solid non-partisan political documentary... go to imdb. Jeff and Terry Beard were responsible for some of the film getting made (Terry Beard is founder of the Beard Frame Shops chain.) Now, I need to go find some cans in the cupboard and get myself a date... peace :>)

I believe Jeff Beard's heart is in this, but Terry Beard's is not. He just wants attention and fame. Terry, why don't you start by doing a good deed and treating your fellow citizens of Portland, including your employees, with respect and dignity. Then maybe we would respect you. Instead of putting time in to film, how about a therapist? How about learning to build up what and who is around you, instead of tearing down what and who is around you? When we are gone we are remembered for what and who we built up !

I agree. Terry Beard does not have any dignity. His business, thebigday.com, is a rip off. His clients are stranded and he is in Paris. It is obvious why Terry lost his lawsuit, and he is surely facing more against himself now. I was informed that the owner of TheBigDay.Com, Terry Beard, was aware that his clients were stranded all over the world, and that the brides and grooms were not going to receive their registry money on time, if at all. This was on the 19th of April, 2009. I was informed by one of the employees of TheBigDay.com, and we were very upset. We were due to leave the next day to Fiji, had spent thousands of dollars, and our resort was not paid for. I contacted the resort and they said TheBigDay.Com and Happy Vacations never paid them. Our airline tickets were not paid for, even though we received an itinerary stating they were. We were also informed by employees that the owner, Terry Beard, left the next day for Paris, France, on his own vacation, and we were told that he stated to his employees that he did not care about what was going on. We were then told that all the employees were laid off, and came to work to volunteer to try to rebook their stranded and cheated clients. I was also told by one employee who I can not reach now, that the co-owner and co-founder, Michael Cottam, refused to assist the volunteering employees rebook or help his clients, or any clients at TheBigDay.com. Instead he went to a fund raiser coctail party, and his monthly rotary meeting, all while his clients were stranded, or getting married like us, and were preparing to travel on our honeymoon, but nothing was paid for. Where is the attorney general. Why is the owner in Paris. What a rip off.

If the Big Day was so bad, you should've tried out Paradise Registry for a great honeymoon registry service. My wife and I, and also her cousins used it and we thought it was simple, painless and actually fun.
