News Paying Poor People For Sterilization

Ever since Portland made it illegal to sit or lie on the downtown sidewalks, I've been trying to find a more morally abhorrent law more obviously aimed at the poor, that stuck in my craw more. It's been tough. But I think this morning I may have found a good contender. "How do we get more poor people from welfare into paying taxes and being more productive members of society?" asks State Rep John LaBruzzo of Louisiana on CNN. Why: Give 'em a thousand bucks to get sterilized!
More at the blog of New Orleans. The best part is LaBruzzo's apparent sincerity. It's for their own good. Etcetera. You've got to beware that tone when it's coming from the mouths of lawmakers, I think.
