Halloween: The Shining Way!

Not thrilled with the prospect of spending Halloween night at your front door, giving bite-size KitKat to kids dressed in this mask? Then pack the car and head out the Timberline for a Halloween evening that would do Jack Torrance proud.

In 1980, Stanley Kubrick came to the Timberline Lodge to film one of the all-time great horror classics, THE SHINING. In the film, Jack Nicholson slowly loses his grasp on reality and loses himself in a hallucination of a 1920s era ball. Twenty-Eight years later, Nike Sportswear and Fantastic Fest have joined forces to recreate the very same ball at the very same lodge.

"Come Play With Us: A Celebration of The Shining at the Timberline Lodge" is taking over the historical building for a Halloween evening of dinner, live music, drinking (I assume there will be a "Red Rum" mix-drink), and an elevator that dispenses a tide of cascading blood. Okay maybe not the last one--too messy--but there are a couple packages available, and one includes an overnight stay in the lodge, complete with an in-room screening of the movie.

Here's hoping the door to your room can withstand an axe-wielding madman.

I'm Mike Wallace, I'm Morley Safer, and I'm Ed Bradley. All this and Andy Rooney tonight on 60 Minutes!

For the record, Kubrick was never in Oregon or the US for this or any other movie he made after "Lolita" -- the only shots in "The Shining" that involve Timberline were exteriors shot by a second unit.

Nice legend, though

Not a bad deal I guess, but the whole Nike sponsorship deal is pretty weak.

^^I suspect that the Nike sponsorship is pretty crucial in keeping the entire package @ $25, however.

^^ Yeah, because we can always count on Nike first and foremost doing the right thing for the community by making things affordable and as a modest afterthought attaching thier name to any and all manner of public event...
