A quick check of Lloyd 10 shows that only 9 theaters have movies scheduled during that time period.... Maybe there's something to this.

Too add to the confusion (or maybe to clarify things):

So there was a Max Payne promo screening scheduled for Lloyd Cinemas tomorrow night at 7. I was just informed a few minutes ago, though, that the Max Payne screening has been canceled.

That could be why the tenth auditorium appears to be available--as in, that auditorium was originally scheduled to show an unadvertised screening of Max Payne, and the theater just hasn't gotten around to adding showtimes of their other movies to make up for Max Payne's absence.

Or that auditorium could appear to be open because they're using it for a supposedly secret screening of Watchmen.

It's gonna be a mob. A sea of nerds on SE Multnomah. They better bring Homer Simpson for door security.
But seriously, I'd love to see it. The Dr. Manhattan-related scenes in the preview looked incredible, especially the Mars stuff. I'm hoping they pull this one off well, but it could be a rough cut and it'll be worth it to wait for regular release.

Look, the article also states they want "NON-comics" people. Most likely they want to test weather "Joe Six Pack" is gonna allow a R rated comic book movie with a lot of unsettling stuff in it to make "Dark Knight" money. If this is actually happening a "sea of nerds" showing up is most likely going to shut it down entirely or move it. The fact that this article is even up would probably kill it if it's real. Plus there is NO-WAY, that this could be just a "Show up and ask to get into the super secret preview" thing. This is one of the biggest movies of the year. If they want to cultivate a specific demographic group to watch it, there HAVE to be passes or a list or something...

Universal tried a blind screening of Serenity, way back before the official pre-screenings they did, and it ended up being all fans. Perhaps fans flooding "blind" screenings is not the best tactic if we want a movie to succeed at the box office?

No, but it's an excellent tactic if you're trying to build buzz in a targeted, tightly knit demographic. (True, that didn't work with Serenity--but then, nothing the PR people tried worked with Serenity.)

My hunch? This screening's a go, and someone at Warner Bros. "leaked" the info about the event--thus making sure a whole lot of people know about it, and thus causing a fair amount of buzz (both around town and on the internet) about the film.

Again, I ask. What is this fascination with fictional characters?

But to screen for "Non-Comic" folk... that doesn't sound like buzz would be the goal. Buzz was the 30 min showing they had for the press a few weeks ago. It sounds more like they want to damage test this thing and see how palatable it is to the "mainstream". Attempting to filter out comics fans from a screening (asked to play dumb...convince them you're and "average" american, etc.) would be the opposite of buzz since fans are obviously gonna generate the most of it . If this is really happening, and it REALLY is just ask and get in, a large crowd of fans is gonna kill it dead.

As far as I know it's still going on(Max Payne) Where were they giving out free passes?

Heard they've moved it to the Bridgeport Village in Tigard.

It's not at Bridgeport if it's at 7pm, since there are 18 movies playing at/during 7pm there.

"They did give out passes at the theater on Sunday; they have codes and require online registration."

So it's a matter of finding someone with a code who doesn't want it? Or are they continuing to hand out passes.

IMDb posts from people who saw it being deleted under threat of legal action by The Screening Exchange, since everyone signed an NDA. Heh.

i tried to get in, but it didn't happen.

I tried too, but no dice--they had one of the people who runs local press screenings there to keep an eye out for members of the press. They recognized me before I even got within 20 feet of the line. (The line was huge, and everybody in it was having to fill out non-disclosure agreements.) "There's no way this is gonna happen for me, is there?" I asked. "No. Way. In hell," the screening rep said.

It's a good thing (for them, I guess) that they were so tight with security--aside from all the fanboys trying to sneak in, I know of at least two other Portland film writers who tried to get in/sneak in/talk their way in, but they too were recognized and stopped.
