Can Portland's Creative Community Survive Development, Price Surge?
As evidenced by my sinuses, it's cold season again. And though I tried, all of the hand washing and esoteric pill popping could not keep the crap from crawling up my schnoz and setting up shop. I feel like I'm in a goddamn diving bell that's been too pressurized. It's that bizarre under water sensation that erases any real connection with the world.
Hmmm... What could make this all better? I know! Booze!
I once worked for a legend of a man who suggested that the best way to get through a cold was to drink you way through it. Non-stop. And while I can't fully endorse his position, I will say that a hot toddy, or three, has been known to work miracles. Even if those miracles are just an illusory sense of ease, contentment, and health. Hell, I'll take the illusion.
1 1/2 ounces Whiskey
1 ounce Honey
1/3 ounce Lemon Juice
3 ounces Water (Hot)
Combine, stir, let cool a bit, moan, sip, moan, sip.... Relief
Okay, okay, there are those out there who say that booze will dehydrate you and prolong the symptoms and blah blah blah. So, go ahead and use your discretion like any sane adult should.
For you lucky souls out there who aren't suffering the mucus scourge, here are some tid-bits:
A new Blitz Bar is opening up at 2239 SE 11th Ave. on the cusp of Ladd's addition. Check out the ad in this weeks Mercury, right beside my Lush Life column, for a pizza coupon. But be warned, should you become intoxicated at the Blitz Ladd, there is every possibility that you could leave the bar, get lost in Ladd's Addition and never return.
(strange, every time I leave my computer, my sinuses clear...)
It is imperative that you join me next Saturday at the Artisan Spirits Distillery Open House. The event runs from 2 to 5 pm at 1227 SE Stark Street. Seriously, you have got to check out the wine waterbed (and the high dive). And, by the way, their products are finally hitting liquor store shelves. Track 'em down.
There may still be time to get in on New Deal's distillery dinner, this Sunday at Belly Timber. Send an e-mail here, if you are interested.
Okay, toddy time... Ta Ta!
