In case you missed it, here are the highlights from John McCain's appearance on David Letterman last night. Warning: It is wildly less funny than McCain's legitimately hilarious performance at the Alfred E. Smith dinner -- but still entertaining for all fans of "uncomfortable" and "awkward." (Sorry about the stupid ad at the top of this clip. Take that 30 seconds to reflect on how McCain was at one time a funny, and fairly decent politician before he was put under the spell of Karl Rove.)

That's McCain at his best ("I screwed up") and worst ("There's millions of words said in a campaign") all in one clip.

I feel sorry for the bastard. He sold himself out. Everything that made him so appealing & sympathetic in 2000 is gone. He has committed his campaign to the rabid-right/Karl Rove wing of the GOP. You can't win by trying to be someone you're not. Bad strategy.

it's a sad, sad commentary on the "liberal media" that McCain (who, I'm sorry has ALWAYS been an asshole) is surrounded by reporters constantly, yet it's David Letterman that has to point out his rank hypocrisy in palling around with G. Gordon Liddy. Oh well, as long as we have late-night talk-show hosts I guess the Republic will endure.
