Former Secretary of State Colin Powell endorses Obama, leading the Washington Post to run the headline: "Powell Rejects Islamophobia." Wait! Obama's not a Muslim! (Okay, so the piece is more nuanced than that, but still.)
Federal Reserve Chair Ben Bernanke wants more economic stimulus. Could another Bush rebate check be in the mail soon? (Hmm, I wonder if they could stamp McCain's face on it, and get it to you before the election?)
Rejoice! Beverly Hills Chihuahua is no longer the number one movie. But Mark Wahlberg's Max Payne is. So I take it back.
Sarah Palin calls Obama's tax plan "socialist." And Republican Sen. Mel Martinez "likened Obama's tax plan to communist Cuba." Because giving the middle class a leg up is scary.
Also, Palin--while bashing Obama's tax plan--introduced a new character to the campaign trail: "Barack Obama calls it spreading the wealth," she said. "[Democratic vice-presidential candidate] Joe Biden calls higher taxes patriotic. But Joe the plumber and Ed the dairy man, I believe that they think that it sounds more like socialism. Friends, now is no time to experiment with socialism."
