250 Business Cards For Five Cans Of Food

Posted by Matt Davis on Thu, Nov 6, 2008 at 11:58 AM

One of the things I love most about working at the Mercury is the superficial thrill I get whenever I hand over one of our slick business cards:

In these difficult economic times, having a business card is both a reassuring sign that yes, I'm still employed and yes, you can contact me with information likely to result in my continued employment. It's all about legitimacy. Right, Steve? ...Steve?

But now it turns out, you don't even need to work for the Mercury to be able to experience this thrill, AND feel good about giving to charity. Local print firm Phoenix Media is offering to print 250 business cards, full color, to your design, in exchange for just five cans of food, which it will donate to the Oregon Food Bank. So: Why not simply take a scan of my business card, get them to print that, and pass yourself off as a fraudulent newsman? *

The best thing about the whole deal is that if the business cards don't work for you, and you still find yourself out on the street with no money, you can always go get some free food, for your trouble, from the Oregon Food Bank! That's a circle of justice, people. A circle of justice. Change you can believe in. Yes we can. Etcetera. Etcetera. Now, go forth and network!

*joke. You could never pull off the accent.
