News I am the new Unpaid News Intern

Well, another winter is upon us. And with the changing of the weather comes the changing of the unpaid English majors at the Portland Mercury. Through her tireless dedication and effort, former news intern Sarah Mirk has advanced to the coveted position of "Freelancer we keep around."
Now, it's time for a new face to step forward, to fight and claw, with the hope that he too may someday derive a lower-middle-class income from his writing.
Armed with my cellphone camera, my note pad, and my three fourths of an English degree, I will be diving into your innards, Portland, and digging up the juiciest stories not currently staked out by Matt or Amy. Or Sarah. Or any other major local publication.
I am the new Unpaid News Intern, and this is my introduction. KB

Has Sarah seriously been unpaid this entire time? She's been the Merc's best writer (by far) for months now.
What? I, for one, assumed you were paying her with thoughtful commentary, surprises in the litter box, and hairballs...
