The Mercury's Blogtown Food Drive!

Since I wrote the piece detailing the woes of the Oregon Food Bank, things have only gotten worse. Due to recent economic conditions and job losses, the number of people who have begun requesting emergency food boxes has skyrocketed in many areas of Oregon. Just this week, statistics were released that ranked Oregon the third hungriest state in America.

I believe that the compassionate citizens of Blogtown can make a difference. I know you're passionate about food, but what about feeding others? Starting today, and continuing until next Wednesday, we will be accepting food donations for the Oregon Food Bank. Call it Flash Charity. The idea here is to see how much food we can collect between now and Thanksgiving eve. On Wednesday afternoon I will gather the donations and personally deliver them to a local Oregon Food Bank distribution center.

So, here's your chance to insure our more destitute citizens will have a better spread on their Thanksgiving table. Drop off a bag of non-perishable food items (boxed, canned or jarred) at the Mercury office, 605 NE 21st, Suite 200, today through Friday until 5pm, and Monday through Wednesday between 9am to 5pm.

In return, we can give you a free Milk (the movie) t-shirt for any donation, or a ticket to the Laurelhurst Theater for two bags of food.

I want to see how much food we can gather in five days. It's a short deadline, but I've got faith! C'mon Blogtownies! Let's do it!

Hey,

So Alberta St. bars and restaurants are going to start getting a push from their own employees to set up donation boxes for the food bank in their own establishments in the very, very soon future considering the near-crisis. Has anyone considered Food Not Not Food!! as another option to start proliferating across the city? The Kenton Neighborhood is already going...
