Good Morning News!

Posted by Sarah Mirk on Fri, Dec 5, 2008 at 9:06 AM

"We have gone from recession into something that looks more like collapse." New numbers show that the U.S. lost 1.9 million jobs in the last year. Does that mean there's 1.9 million more people with nothing to do but read blogs all day?

"I hope we will do something." Meanwhile, Congress is still undecided on whether to fork over $34 billion to car companies.

"An invisible war against women" is revealed in really painful video from Congo.

"He's put a lock on the door on the House of Commons." Does anyone care that Canada's prime minister is turning into a despot who closes Parliament before they can vote him out? I thought someone might.

"Coffee shops." Amsterdam refuses to crack down on marijuana cafes near schools.

"There's not a lot of snow potential right now." Mt. Bachelor's 200 workers are crossing their fingers that snowfall will bring them paychecks.

"It's brutal and it's really cool." Caving to pressure from Portland's most dangerous demographic, The Oregonian finally starts covering roller derby.

The only way to save our economy is to pass a massive tax increase on the rich, a tariff on a variety of import goods, and an across the board cut to the wages of most government workers.
