Samscandalgate: Is the Tide Turning?

Posted by Wm.™ Steven Humphrey on Thu, Jan 22, 2009 at 12:00 PM

Ugh? "Samscandalgate"? Surely there's a better name for this. Help in the comments, please!
Anyway, is the tide against Sam turning more in his favor—possibly thanks to the knee-jerk, hysterical, cynical, reader-grabbing editorials from here, here, here and here? (What up, Clark County?)
During our last COMPLETELY scientific Blogtownie poll taken on Tuesday morning, 60% of you felt that Sam should NOT resign. Let's see if that number has changed. SO! Knowing what you know now…

SHOULD SAM RESIGN?

Theres an option missing: NO, I'm choosing to create a sex-positive social climate.

Seriously...who gives a shit? He fucked a legal adult and then lied about it. Here's an idea: It's nobody's fucking business but his and the Bumlove guy or whatever his (hilarious) name is.

But wait... "He is holding a public office and he LIED about his personal life"!!! Fuck off, so he lied, you lie, I lie, everyone fucking lies and it's NOBODY'S BUSINESS who he sticks his dick inside.

If your readers spent more time becoming educated voters rather than discerning drinkers; this poll might mean something.

The tide isn't necessarily turning. The people who previously shrugged and said "Who cares?" have caught on that LOTS of people care and the issue won't go away, so now they're mobilizing. It's still early days.

Can this whole mess have a name without "gate" at the end? So overdone.

What about SASS - Sam Adams sex scandal? Or is there any way to find a Y world so it could be SASSY? That's a fucking scandal name if I've ever heard one.

Also, @ Vert: if you're commenting on this blog, you're clearly reading it. So really, what are you trying to say?

Wee-wees are dirty, shameful things. You are all unclean for thinking about the Mayor's wee.

I will pray for you all.

I totally agree with Jonser...*gate is a shitty way to "name" any scandal...it reeks of unoriginality (especially given how much it's been beaten into the ground since the Clinton days). It makes me want to kick peoples' teeth in.

PDseX scandal would be a great name if the scandal was really about the sex...but it's not.

How about we just call it "old news" and move on with our lives?

It's not about him fucking someone or even lying about fucking someone, assuming it doesn't come out that kid was underage. It's everything about HOW he lied about, that he attempted to cover it up, that he smeared Bob Ball, that he hung Randy Leonard out, he told the kid he fucked to lie, he had one of his political operatives coach the kid how to lie. Then there's the smell of corruption surrounding the hiring of an unqualified reporter (sorry Amy, I'm sure you're smart and cool and all that, you're a victim as well) to work on his staff.
Sure Sam is a smart progressive who would have been a good Mayor. But the coverup of the lie is fatal in my book.

So I'm guessing you were a big Ken Starr fan back in the day?

Point is, if we weren't a peevishly moralising, easily-scandalised yet always scandal-seeking people and were instead the rational, pragmatic, progressive polity we tout ourselves as being--he wouldn't have had to lie, and this wouldn't be an issue one way or another.

Get the fuck on with life, with policy, with facing actual problems in the real world, rather than somebody's bedroom decisions.

Only thing that's anybody's business is if the guy was under-age, and as yet we can only say he was not.

Hilariously, I knew about this like five years ago. I was on a date with Beau Breedlove and Beau bragged about boning Sam.

When I saw both Beau AND Sam lie about it on TV . . . Disgusted.

I'm a homo who says: Sam, go away.

Oh. And Beau WAS underage, btw.

If I was Sam, I would have waited 'til the kid was 18, fucked him, enjoyed it, tried to deny it (since the primary question being asked was if the guy was of age), and then told all the homophobic straight people and self-righteous puritanical gay people to go fuck themselves, they might learn a thing or two.

So all in all, Sam has handled this to my liking.

Go Sam!

tnes -

Seriously, I encourage you to march right down to Salem and cooperate fully with the Attorney General's investigation. Otherwise, given your serious allegations, you're just participating in anonymous smears.

ummm, tnes, you don't get much in the way of credibility when you claim to have known about something two years before it happened.

What? Gay men have sex with....men? Politicians....lie? Gimme a fucking break. Whose idea was it to cover a story on Sam Adams having sex with someone anyway? Oh wait, the Mercury covered that story, right? Douche bag rumor rag.
