Skate 2: A World of Pain in Video

Update: Picture added via Skate 2's photo capture ability. Notice the officially branded Skate or Die tank top. Is it ironic to wear a gaming shirt within a videogame?

My review of Skate 2 just went up in the Merc and while it goes on at length comparing the game to a robotic dinosaur, I don't think I got to wax poetic quite enough on how fantastic the game's video and photo sharing abilities are.

See, in Skate 2, any time you do anything the game saves the last few moments of your antics. You're then given the opportunity to go back and edit the footage, save it permanently and share it over the 'net to fellow players and the uncaring world at large.

Sadly the damn videos are all programmed to start automatically, hence I had to paste them below the jump. If you wanna watch me attempt to murder my virtual simulacrum or demonstrate the grind that landed my faux self in the pages of faux Thrasher magazine, click the link below.

In which I try to kill myself:

In which I nearly break my legs jumping off a staircase:

If you followed my advice and bought a copy of Skate 2 as well, feel free to toss links to any awesome clips or pictures you might have created in the comments.

That looks pretty fun. I used to play the old Tony Hawk games. How does the control set compare?

It's pretty vastly different. In THPS you entered trick combos by pressing buttons, but in Skate you flick the sticks in various directions to move your feet in relation to the board. It's harder than THPS, but more satisfying and realistic when you get used to it.

Judging by their hint ("Welcome to New San Vanelona "), it looks like Amazon's Friday, 2PM Gold Box Deal will probably be this game.
