Coraline Makes Some Money.

Good news for Coraline! Over the weekend, the locally produced film pulled in good reviews and a stronger-than-expected $16.3 million. (As an interesting side note, at least 60 percent of that came from theaters showing the film in digital 3-D—in other words, moviegoers are continuing to embrace 3-D, despite higher ticket prices.)

As the WW pointed out last week, local peeps employed by Laika are no doubt watching these numbers very, very closely—and breathlessly waiting for Phil Knight to climb off his throne and decree whether or not Laika has a future. Here's hoping he decides to get Laika's animators officially working on some more projects ASAP.

A PK sighting: Sunday Afternoon I went with some friends to see Coraline 3D at Bridgeport Village. As it turned out, the 2:20 showing we attended was also well-attended by Laika employees (who sometimes laughed and applauded at inside references in the film that the rest of us couldn't fathom), and we saw Phil Knight quietly enter the theater at showtime and sit up near the back.
