Matt -

You've got to get someone to comment on-the-record on that... how long has it been installed?

A friend of mine lives near Bethel Baptist church, which once hung a large promotional banner outside which said "Bethel Bapst" -- it got nearly completely installed before someone pointed out the error to them.

Of course, maybe this is the desk that Informs the entire Nation about Portland. :-)

That's *got* to be some kind of RACC-sponsored piece of public art.

Right...? RIGHT????

Did Joaquin Phoenix put that up there? Is Casey Affleck behind this?

No, this is where you go to sign up to be part of a hip group of the informed.

Kinda like the ColbertNation.

I'm sorry. My bad. I used to be a sign maker before I was hired as Portland Mercury Food Editor.

For clarification: I looked around to see if there was a plaque next to it, or if there was some kind of "inform the nation" project going on...but no dice.

I wonder how long it will stay up.

Ask if they'd be willing to have it auctioned off for the Merc's annual charity drive. Some wayward math rock band from Tigard needs both a band name and a sweet logo to go with it. You could raise upwards of $45 to give to the Oregon Food Bank.

Come on, Matt, that's been around for almost two years. Yes, it's left over from an art installation. There was also a fake directory of offices in the building in the lobby at the time. This sign is still up in the 2nd floor art area, right?

One Google search is all it took to see that it's art, not government signage.

So tough, the reporting research!

More photos of the original 2006 installation ("Imperial Designs") can be found at http://data.racc.org/installationspace/det…. I applaud the fine folks in the Portland building for messing with your head (and anyone else a lacking sense of humor) by keeping and displaying that sign -- sans explanatory plaque!

Dudes... Matt can't investigate to save his life. This is well established. If I (of all people) can accept this little fact and move on, so can you. STFU.
