Death Of The Mount Hood Freeway

Posted by Matt Davis on Fri, Mar 6, 2009 at 2:23 PM

If, like me, you've spent the last two days trying to find A SINGLE ECONOMIST who thinks bringing Major League Soccer to Portland is a good idea, you probably don't have much a.free time, b.free sanity, or c.faith in the city's ability to make smart decisions on costly white elephant projects, right about now..

But take heart. Here's a documentary about Portland's killing of the Mount Hood Freeway, to make you feel smug. Take that, phallic-compensatory public works projects! Take that right to heart...

Check back here later for the economists' verdicts on MLS, incidentally...

Seeing as it's Cat Friday, some posts about cats would be nice. Bonus points for pictures of cats. Thank you for your time.

Watching that video gives me confidence that we can stop the clusterfuck that is the CRC-12! Thanks for the inspiration.

Interestingly enough, the mayor responsible for killing the proposal was Neil Goldschmidt. Who, er...well...was a hero to Oregonians for years. Until his rather unfortunate sexual proclivities were exposed.

Why do I think Davis's sexual proclivities run to cats?

Economists are always right, too. Just ask CNBC!

No, fishnets, those jackasses on CNBC are financial analysts, not economists. Real economists have respect for data and don't sit on TV cheerleading for whatever stock their fund needs to unload on a given day.

Matt - You still haven't found a single person who will tell you who will rent PGE Park and pay down the existing bonds on the park if the city runs Merritt Paulson out of town either.

You completely lose any sort of credibility if you don't report both sides of the deal.
