Alice Awards: Hot Bikes, Hot Glue.

Posted by Sarah Mirk on Mon, Mar 9, 2009 at 1:21 PM

Saturday night under the glaring lights of the Oregon Convention Center, Sprockettes rubbed shoulders with city bureaucrats at the Bicycle Transportation Alliance's annual dressy Alice B. Toeclips Awards fundraiser. During the night, TriMet announced it would spend $1 million from the stimulus on bike parking and the BTA handed out awards to several bike advocates, including the team that got bike lanes through the Rose Quarter and to bike-loving Portland police officer Robert Pickett ....

Aw, what the hell am I doing. I'm just trying to come up with a newsy excuse to post photos of two people who didn't win Alice awards, but should be immediately nominated due to their genius contributions to Portland's bicycle fashion scene.

The first "Yes!! Fashion at the Alice Awards Award" goes to old man bike parker who maneuvered bicycles at the underground valet parking while sporting his homemade welded LED bike parts necklace!

I love this man as much as he loves life!

The second of the two awards goes to Metro Councilor Rex Burkholder who took time out from overseeing million dollar transit budgets to hot glue a menagerie of Oregon animals to his own hat! Thnx Rex!

I asked Rex to pose "like a brave American eagle."

"Old Man Bike Parker" is none other than Mark Allyn, energetic volunteer, colorful character, and prolific producer of all sorts of crazy stuff (http://allyn.com). Rock on, Mark!
