OK, Blogtownies.

So there are two really special Portland-reared performances opening this weekend that I’m totally peeing my pants about. And I just wanted to give you a heads-up, because word on the street is that both shows are selling fast. You snooze, you lose.

Really special Portland performance the first: “Foot Opera Files.” BodyVox dance company teams up with young singers from the Portland Opera studio artist program in a new work that mashes up Tom Waits tunes with BodyVox’s signature everything-but-the modern dance stylings. Oh, and some inspiration from “X Files” is thrown in there, too. It opens Thursday — at their brandy-new Pearl District dance center digs, no less! — and runs through April 5. Tickets ($30-$46) available online here, or by calling 503-229-0627.

Really special Portland performance the second: singer-songwriter Holcombe Waller’s “Into the Dark Unknown: The Hope Chest.” Waller’s assembled and reassembled some of the best material from his TBA ’07 festival hit show, a sort of semi-staged song cycle. After touring the show coast to coast, PICA brings it back home for a short run this weekend, Thursday through Sunday at Imago Theatre. Tix ($12-$18) are online here. (PS - conflict of interest alert! I perform in a manband called FourScore that’s performing the opening “invocation” for Waller's Saturday show. Just puttin’ it out there.)

Now hop to it!

Oh, and here's a not-embarassing promotional video from BodyVox about their new show...
