The Thermals - "When I Died"

After taking on God—and winning—with The Body, The Blood, The Machine, the popsters in the Thermals don't change their tune all that much for full-length number four, Now We Can See (out April 7th on Kill Rock Stars). Death, in all its glorious forms, is a constant lyrical reference on the new record, which, despite such a morbid topic, is an absolute blast to listen to. Evidently death is a lot of fun. Who knew?

LISTEN:
The Thermals - "When I Died"
** Edit: We were asked by the band's label to not post that song. Sorry. If you need us we'll be in our room, listening to Unwound's The Future of What and sobbing for pissing off Kill Rock Stars.

Remember when KRS was a cool label?

To be fair, I did not ask their permission to post it and I should have.

okay here's why I asked: when a reputable site like the mercury posts a song without permission even when it's just a stream everyone else think that means it's cool to post free mp3s of the same song. when a song is posted somewhere we lose out on any chance of exclusivity with the same song on bigger sites. having that exclusivity is key to getting that coverage a lot of times. I am just trying to do right by a band and a record that I love. not trying to be a jerk I promise.

Translation: we licensed the song for a McDonald's commercial. Posting it on the Mercury = plummeting Happy Meal sales.

It makes sense that you would want to save it for a bigger website (rolling stone, pitchfork, ect) but, The Thermals are a PORTLAND BAND.

chunty, i'd love to hear your uninformed opinion about how the music industry should operate while making sure that bands are able to pay their rent while still being able to go on tour and keeping people that work hard on albums and the folks at record stores employed. SERIOUSLY.

also, the thermals turned down a hummer ad. i'm sure they aren't going to be in a mcdonalds ad any time soon. you can feel free to get your head out of your ass any time.

"t makes sense that you would want to save it for a bigger website (rolling stone, pitchfork, ect) but, The Thermals are a PORTLAND BAND."

I'm not sure which one is my favorite, but it's definitely either "The Future of What" or "Repetition".

So are there any tracks off of this forthcoming Thermals album out there to listen to in some legal form or another?

The "You Bite My Tongue" 7" with the lyric-etched b-side is pretty awesome. Thanks for the link!

You're right. Indie rock is big business! Who needs Riot gurrrrls when you've got Riot CEOs? They're, like, totally tearing down the system from the inside, maaaaan.

So stop harshing our profit buzz, alt-weekly! I thought you were down with our rampant success / inclusion on CW teen drama soundtracks?

Apparently Thermals fans wear some easily-bunched panties.

It has nothing to do with getting a free album, it's not letting us listen to a STREAMING song all because they made the Merc take it down to save it for a more important site. That is annoying to me. torrentz.com, here I come.

Hasn't this already leaked and everyone already heard it. Because, if not, it's awesome.
