ISO: Visual Arts Writer

My favorite freelancer just broke up with me. We're totes still friends, but after several years of writing about visual art for the Mercury, he's decided it's time to move on. Fast forward through five stages of grief and a few hours of "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face" on repeat, and we're in the market for a new visual arts writer.

I'm looking for someone to contribute two art reviews and 8-10 blog posts per month, comprising both criticism and arts reporting; occasional features are also a possibility. Ideally you already follow the Portland arts scene, and are capable of writing about it, in complete sentences, without ever using the words "cute" or "awesome."* You are also self-motivated, organized, reliable, and capable of meeting a deadline. Please email me your applications with "art freelancer" in the title (note: this is a test. also note: do not attach pictures of your art). Include a cover email explaining why you're perfect for the job and detailing past experience, as well as links to clips if you've got 'em, or a 200-word sample review if you don't.

*Unless you are for some reason covering "Alison's Cat: A Retrospective," in which case "cutest" and "awesomest" would be appropriate.

I don't follow the Portland Arts Scene. I am not part of the creative class. But fuck... I'll totally submit 8-10 blog posts a month. They'll be awesome. I'll explain Paulrus is Dead. I'll explain Black Dracula.

Give me the keys to the car and crank this to 11. It'll be awesomest!
But not as awesomest as Alison's Cat: A Retrospective.

Hire me. I can write more coherently than most of your freelancers, and I can prolly piss off the readers just as well.

[SRS question, Alison: what would it take for me to become an unpaid intern for blogtown?]

I think our current batch of interns expires at the end of April; if I'm right about that, we'll be taking new applications in a couple weeks.
