Gay-Haters Descend on Pioneer Courthouse Square - Tomorrow!!

Posted by Stephen Marc Beaudoin on Tue, Apr 14, 2009 at 3:18 PM

Oh hellz yes!

For those of you who've been wondering where all the gay drama went since the Adams scandal simmered down, the wait is over!

Tomorrow afternoon in Portland's Pioneer Courthouse Square, one of the state's most ardent anti-gay conservative activists - Concerned Oregonians' Craig Myers - will make a hotly anticipated speaking appearance before an expected audience of thousands in the Square.

Myers, in case you need reminding, is inheritor of the state's anti-gay activist mantle from the likes of former OCA kingpin Lon Mabon (mostly in hiding now) and Restore America's David Crowe (who moved out of state last year), and is rallying the anti-gay forces behind two proposed ballot initiatives in 2010 to repeal the Oregon Family Fairness Act and the Oregon Equality Act, two queer equality laws that hit the books in 2008.

So what's the big occasion for Myers', uh, coming out party? Well, a crunch of conservative goons are coming together tomorrow, Wednesday April 15 (that's Tax Day, people), for a nationwide tea party designed as a "protest of our government's betrayal of its constitutional obligations." Myers and guests are taking to the Square for a major flexing of their collective conservative muscles, and Facebook tells me the Portland event has 401 confirmed guests, with 317 additional peeps "possibly attending."

BUT WAIT! IT GETS BETTER!!

Sharing the stage with Myers and his coterie of anti-queer tea-lovers? None other than openly gay Oregon Libertarian party vice chair Marc Delphine, a financial advisor and perennial candidate for state office. What the hell is Delphine, an active member of the Portland queer community, doing sharing the stage with one of the state's most notorious gay haters??

Any queers up for staging a massive counter-protest? Huh...? Anyone??!!?

If you're curious - and I know you are! - the Tea Party schedule is after the jump...

Here's the April 15 "rally and tea party" schedule:

Are they actually dumping tea bags into the Willamette? I really fucking hope they all get fines for littering. That would be hilarious.

Windmills, guys... Craig Meyers is just as serious threat to civilized life in Oregon as Tom Metzger was.

Didn't Paul Krugman say he felt embarrassed watching the new Teabag movement? What's he doing tomorrow?

... This wasn't an Anti-Gay rally ...

I'm offended that you would lump in the libertarian party in with gay haters. one of my best friends is a libertarian (and is one of the people on the list above). the libertarian party doesn't stand for anti anything but big government.

I'm a Liberal Democrat but have nothing but love for my friend and respect his respect for all people and all things.

It's like saying someone is a homophobe because someone in their family is.

Do some studying before blaming.

As the guy "sharing the stage" with Myers, I have to say, it's this exact line of thinking that allows Myers and others who are known for their anti-gay remarks to share the stage with YOU. Discrimination of your kind could be construed as consistent with the discrimination of his.

Let he who is without sin, cast the first stone.

Let's start loving eachother, brother. The hate stops here!

Ha Ha Check public records...that Aaron Auer dude from ROAR was booted from his house for not making the payments, has multiple money judgments against him and even a restraining order in his past. What a great example of a hypocrite.
