Adams Cancels Homeless Press Briefing

Posted by Matt Davis on Tue, Apr 28, 2009 at 1:32 PM

The mayor's office has canceled a press conference to talk about progress on funding for the homeless Resource Access Center in Old Town this afternoon. A dispute over funding for the access center has been raging for a year, and last week, even threatened to jeopardize the future of the sit/lie ordinance. So we were intrigued at the Mercury to hear about the press conference yesterday afternoon. From the mayor's spokesman, Roy Kaufmann:

MEDIA ALERT
WHAT: Mayor Sam Adams and Commissioner Nick Fish will be announcing progress on the Resource Access Center.
WHEN: Tuesday, April 28, 2009 at 3:15 p.m.
WHERE: Corner of NW Broadway & NW Hoyt (RAC site)
WHO:
Mayor Sam Adams, City of Portland
Commissioner Nick Fish, City of Portland
Bob Walsh, Walsh Construction

Last week I speculated as to why press releases get pulled. Today, I'm even more curious as to why we're playing press conference hokey pokey. Email me your informed guesses, if you please.

Update, 1:40pm: Mayor Adams is rumored to have thrown up and gone home, sick. Next question: Is it swine flu?!!

Are there a lot of homeless members of the Press?

I knew print media was in trouble, but I had no idea it was that bad.

One way or another - with Adams there or another rep of his assigned to keep this process fluidly going -it should have been kept 'going'. He went home sick. Prove it. And I mean it. Sounds more like he came up with an excuse - once again - to pout about life and go home and garden. Ain't life just like that. Would be funny if he weren't all of our mayor and the homeless especially deserved him to act more like a mature, professional leader of all people - and not like this....
