Where Are Portland's Crappy Superheroes?

Posted by Erik Henriksen on Wed, Apr 29, 2009 at 11:33 PM

This is absolutely awesome—albeit in the most butt-clenchingly awkward way imaginable. So apparently, a few people fancying themselves as real-life superheroes have been dressing up in stupid-ass costumes and attempting to fight crime. In the video below, witness "The Allegiance of Heroes" as they fearlessly patrol the mean streets of Cleveland WKRP in Cincinnati in the middle of a sunny afternoon. ALLEGIANCE ASSEMBLE!

I love superhero comics as much as anybody, but jesusfuckingchrist. I guess what I'm trying to say is: Come to Portland, dudes. Fuckin' please come to Portland. I'd give anything to see all of you go up against the closest thing Portland has to a supervillain, the nefarious Ninja Biker. (More here.) (And, uh, just for the record? My money is so on Ninja Biker.)

Via io9. Also, props to the smartass at CNN who put sarcastic quotation marks around the word "superheroes" in their video synopsis. Also, some recommended reading for the brave and the bold members of the Allegiance.

I wonder if I can join the squad if I walk around in my underoos, make "snikt snikt" noises under my breath and call people "Bub" all the time.

Oh fuck it, I'm gonna do that anyway.

Um, we have one. His name's Zetaman. Your buddies over at the Willie Week have already been there, done that, bought the codpiece back in 2008.

Google "Zetaman portland" for linkage.

These guys are awesome. So out of shape.

In a fight, I'm pretty sure the last thing you want is a cape tied around your neck. You enemy is going to swing you around by that sucker while you choke to death.

"Master Legend" is the greatest superhero name of all time. What does that even mean? Besides excellence, I mean.

FYI, you said this is in Cleveland, but CNN says it's going down in Cincinnati. They are two different cities.

Great. All we need are some masked guys with inferiority complexes macing and cuffing us when they assume we're bad guys.

scooped on this? more like pooperscooped! Being beat to the punch (get it) to cover ultradweebs isn't necessarily baaad thing. But then I'm sure the word dweeb was used before too. Is a blog post a cover story? I missed something. I did a cover story about confusion once...

Shadowhair might have been a great superhero name. But his name is ShadowHARE, as in a super-scary dark bunny.
