Raise the roof, classical music nerds fans of modern classical music!

Even if you've never heard of her - and maybe especially if you haven't - contemporary classical music composer Jennifer Higdon rates two hours of your rapt attention and twenty five bucks from your wallet. Why? Because 1) she writes music of extreme neo-romantic gorgeousness, 2) she composed a musical portrait of the city of Atlanta, a concerto for orchestra called "City Scape," that is fucking rad, and 3) I never steer you wrong on these sort of things.

Lucky for you, Higdon's in town tonight and only tonight, as guest of Portland's estimable Third Angle New Music ensemble. The chamber group's playing a bunch of Higdon's works, and it's also an opportunity to rub shoulders with the Grammy-winning composer herself! It all goes down tonight, May 15, 7:30 pm onward at The Old Church. Tix available online here.
