Events / Bikes Police With Short Shorts Homo Watergate Ride!

This weekend I got sunburned. While drinking a beer and eating Cheez-Its. And (arguably) came in third place in a cupcake decorating contest. It is definitely almost summer.

More important than solstice or school breaks, impending summer means we are now officially counting down the days to the best bike festival in the entire world: Portland's PedalPalooza. Anyone can sign up to lead a bike ride during the two weeks of bike fun - you think up a theme and post it on the SHIFT2BIKES website, we'll print it in the Mercury's bike issue calendar. Sound like a deal? Good, because today is the absolute last possible day you can register a bike ride. Unless you are Brendan Fraser or Ruth Bader Ginsburg, in which case you can email the Merc directly and I'll make sure your ride gets in.

Matt Davis and Justin "Scrappers" Morrison have already posted rides (Matt's is Golf by Bike and Scrappers' is a wandering discovery adventure involving nutria and The Bins) and I am definitely going to get around to it by midnight tonight. Check out all the rides here. For inspiration's sake, here are my favorite rides so far, based solely on their names:

HOMO BIKE TO SKATE
CELEBRATE WATERGATE (led by "Barack Obama")
BOWIE VS. PRINCE MOBILE DANCE PARTY
SHORT SHORTS SCANDINAVIAN PRIDE RIDE
POLICE ON BIKES—WATCH HOW SLOW THEY GO!

NOTE! The May 15th deadline was for entries to the printed calendar... events can still be added to the online calendar, right up through the end of Pedalpalooza (June 27th), though they will not be in the calendar that appears in the PM and is delivered to bike shops and other spots around town.
