Die-In At Blumenauer's Office For Healthcare

Posted by Matt Davis on Thu, May 28, 2009 at 3:06 PM

Singlepayeraction.org held a "die-in" event at Congressman Earl Blumenauer's office yesterday, asking him to support single-payer health care:

I don't know about you, but I'm pretty confused by the variety of health care reforms being proposed from all over the place. So: Wouldn't it be great if the Mercury and, I don't know, the Bus Project were to organize an event next Wednesday night where you could come along, drink a beer, and find out more about the different options? Why, YES IT WOULD! AND GUESS WHAT!? It's happening:

how appropriate. Lots more people would die with single-payer health care.

Mr voluptuous, how you figure that? Since as far as we know, everyone dies eventually, are you figuring that people would have more children under single payer than they do now, and therefore there would be more deaths? I personally think that under single payer more people could afford good birth control and so death rates would go down because there would be less of us, but I think the state would be money ahead right now to subsidize birth control: It is far cheaper than what we spend on educating those children...

How would more people die? We spend twice as much on healthcare than any other industrialized country yet rank very low in terms of infant mortality, life expectancy, and deaths from preventable disease. We have wealthcare not healthcare.

If every rep and senator comes up with his own personal plan - the result will be that NO plan has enough backing to pass anywhere.
HR 676 is the original - and Archimedes project is molded after it ... it makes the MOST sense to have everyone back HR 676 ...
instead of having 10 plans each of which will never get enough support ...

divide and conquer - works all the time!
