Catching Up On The News

Posted by Matt Davis on Mon, Jun 8, 2009 at 11:52 AM

Bah! So busy! It being Monday, we're chasing after a couple of big stories today in the Mercury news room but in the few seconds available it's my duty to inform you of the following:

RECALL CAMPAIGN GETS 500 VOLUNTEERS. Still no public relations person and as far as I can tell, the hangers-on are still hanging on. But campaign spokesman Jasun Wurster says the campaign now has $1225.99 in donations. “We feel that some people are waiting to see what the Oregon Attorney General's report finds," says Wurster, who is producing door hangers and training videos for the signature gatherers. "There is no guarantee that the AG's report will be issued anytime soon. More importantly, there is no guarantee that Sam Adams will voluntarily resign based on it's findings.”

WHY HOMELESS PEOPLE CHOOSE STREETS OVER SHELTER. From my new favorite blog.

LIKE A PERSISTENT WEED. There's a new media discussion board in town, less than a week after Oregon Media Insiders boss Lynn Siprelle quit her site over nasty trolls.

I'd love to see pictures of this "News Room". How many bongs does it contain?

500 volunteers. Isn't that more people than showed up at the Save Sam rally? Even if you count Dan Savage, Storm Large and the other C-list celebrities as five people each. (Bow-tie guy can count as ten people.)

@Blabby (Jack)

It's amazing how much we've heard from the recall folks since their kick out rally...oh wait...do you hear crickets too? That's what I've heard.

It's all on Kroger's report. No indictment - no recall. It's that simple.

Hi BlackedOut,

The only thing that will stop us from perusing a Recall is if Sam Adams resigns. No matter how the AG's report reads when it is released we will start collecting signatures the beginning of July to Recall Sam Adams for:

- willfully lying to get elected

- orchestrating an elaborate cover-up

- abusing the power we granted him

As always this is a positive, non-partisan and intelligent campaign to hold Sam Adams accountable for his civic transgressions.

@Jasun,

How can you say this with a straight face? "positive, non-partisan and intelligent campaign"

When all of your media supporters are negative, partisan idiots?

@Jasun,

Really Jasun? You're kidding right? If you don't enlist the bigots and religious right you're not coming up with enough people and everyone seems to know it but you.

No indictment - no recall. That's a fact.

For clarification: "Recall campaign gets 500 volunteers..." according to whom or what? According to Wurster? Did he produce a list, backing up this claim? Or are you taking his word for it?

@Truth Squad

If its anything like Kerry 2004 it will go like this. They registered 500 volunteers and they'll be lucky to have 50 show up.

There isn't a problem signing up volunteers in Oregon for anything. Actually getting them to show up and do something is entirely a different animal.

@ Graham and BlackedOut: I'm a gay liberal agnostic Democrat who volunteered and voted for Adams - I'm signing the petition. You're mistaken if you think this is about bigotry and homophobia.

@pdxrocks

That's fine. I don't think the recall effort is about bigotry and homophobia...yet.

Do I have to spell it out? No indictment by Kroger and the only large pool of people that will still care about this are the Victoria Tafts and Lars Larsons of the world. Oh and props for letting her broadcast from the Kick-Out event. That looked really great having a hard right wing Christianist broadcasting her radio show from the front window. It really keeps up the appearance that this isn't about bigotry and homophobia. (can you hear the sarcasm dripping from my keyboard?) As long as the recall effort lets her and her ilk attach their names to the recall they're done and cooked. No indictment = no recall.
