Someone's On A City Fax Machine

Posted by Matt Davis on Tue, Jul 21, 2009 at 12:21 PM

Asking whether it's really appropriate for the city to give Merritt Paulson a break on his permitting costs to build the Major League Soccer stadium when City Commissioner Randy Leonard is laying off a bunch of staff from the city's permitting department:

Yeah how dare they waive $700,000 in permitting costs when Paulson is spending $11 million in straight cash into a city owned facility. I mean the last time someone wanted to spend i$11 million dollars in private capital on a publicly owned facility we charged them permitting fees. Wait, when was the last time something like this happend?

Question for this BDS employee (or question that a real reporter would ask..ahem MATT) - what are the normal permitting costs for city projects on city owned property AND is it appropriate to charge permitting costs for piblic projects which is essentially one bureau charging another. I have no idea but you see this type of information puts over the top rhetorical crap like this in context.

Context Matt. That is your job.
