The Portland Trail Blazers have just announced their pre-season—it's like the regular season, but entirely meaningless—schedule and it features a "turn-back-the-clock" game at the Memorial Coliseum on October 14th against the Phoenix Suns. Take it away, press release:

PORTLAND, Ore. — As part of a season-long celebration of the team’s 40th anniversary, the Portland Trail Blazers will return to the Memorial Coliseum on October 14, highlighting an eight-game preseason schedule announced today.

For the first time, the Trail Blazers will return to the venue they called home from 1970-95. Portland will host the Phoenix Suns, reuniting the two teams that played in the final NBA game at the Coliseum on Tuesday, May 2, 1995.

“We are excited to have an opportunity to host a ‘turn-back-the-clock’ game at the Memorial Coliseum,” Trail Blazers President Larry Miller said. “It will be very nostalgic for many Trail Blazers fans, and for others a chance to see the team play in its original venue for the first time.”

Surely this "back-the-clock" turning will lead to a ripple in time—a hoops version of the Butterfly Effect—causing both the world to collapse and Steve Blake to become the NBA's top defender. Pray for us all.

The complete pre-season schedule is after the jump.

Tuesday, October 6 vs. Sacramento at the Rose Garden
Wednesday, October 7 vs. Sacramento at Arco Arena
Friday, October 9 vs. L.A. Clippers at the Staples Center
Wednesday, October 14 vs. Phoenix at the Memorial Coliseum
Thursday, October 15 vs. Utah at EnergySolutions Arena
Sunday, October 18 vs. Denver at the Rose Garden
Tuesday, October 20 vs. Utah at the Rose Garden
Thursday, October 22 vs. Phoenix at G.M. Place (Vancouver, B.C.)

They should move back permanently. It's an architectural gem, after all.

Agreed. Making fun of Oden is easy, you can do better than that.

I like this bit:

Greg Oden is awesome... in NBA 2K9 the video game. Although we might never find out in real life since he can't play more than 20 min before fouling out.

Sirs:

How dreary you all are.

Sports in America; a sop to the mediocre and easily distracted. Any one read anything of import lately? Perhaps the funny papers? Cliff notes? A column by Wm.TM? Or are you too busy Tweeting one hundred and forty four characters at a time on the most mundane of topics, your toilet habits?

There was a time a gentleman could find interesting conversation and commentary in the popular media, but today? An article about a game played by quasi-literite "college graduates" for the entertainment and distraction of the lower classes.

How drear indeed.

Humbly,
