David Cross Comes to Portland

David Cross, renowned thespian, has appeared in such cinematic masterpieces like Year One, Alvin and the Chipmunks, Men in Black 2, School for Scoundrels, and Curious George. How's that for a legacy? But alongside his illustrious career in film, Mssr. Cross has also had somewhat dubious success as a hack standup comedian. In fact, some Seattle label (Slub Plop or something) released a couple of his albums, including the horrifically named Shut Up You F**king Baby and the aptly titled It's Not Funny. Delving deeper into this monstrously talented film actor's shameful past, he's even appeared on a few TV shows no one has ever heard of, bearing obscure names like Mr. Show and Arrested Development.

And now the phenomenally gifted David Cross is again taking time away from his incredibly important film career (his upcoming works include Cat Tale, in which he voices the character of "Stork," and Alvin and the Chipmunks 2: The Squeakquel) to appear as a clown on the Portland stage. He's appearing at the Newmark Theater on Thursday, September 24. Advance tickets are available for $35 and will be available at Ticketmaster. At some point. Not yet.

Ah, gentle Sir Cross! How you seduce us with your noble screen roles, then turn your back on your god-given talent for such base, low comedy.

Here's a kinda old "interview" he did with Michael Showalter, in which the two clown around like children. It's remarkably unprofessional.

ME-OW.
So. Do you despise Cross or are you just finger-wagging at his wasted "god-given talent?"

Oh, are you to provide some context to his appearance here as a clown or shall we assume he's just going to do some horn honking and funny walks across the stage for 2 hours?

Anyway, GREAT article! SO great. Really! Really, you ask? REALLY, I say.

I think it's safe to say that David Cross is funnier than anyone who writes for the Mercury.

You forgot to mention the movie "Run Ronnie Run" based off one of the Mr. Show characters. Hilarious. Love that guy.

I think you give the man's illustrious film career way too much credit. Maybe he did lend himself to the masterful Alvin and the Chipmunks movie, but he also irrevocably debased himself by taking a part in that hack job "film" Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.

So let's see, $35 tickets... available through Ticketmaster, so they will end up costing what? $50?
