Recall Campaign Opens Office

Posted by Rachael the Unpaid News Intern on Wed, Aug 5, 2009 at 12:20 PM

The Community to Recall Sam Adams celebrated the opening of its office on Monday with a wine and snacks (meatballs! chips and salsa!) open house, thanks to American Property Management, who donated the office for just $5 a month.

The office, located on N. Broadway, features a main room and four smaller offices, designated “Training Room,” “Volunteer Coordination,” “Management,” and “Campaign Coordination.” It is open seven days a week and is staffed, like the rest of the campaign, entirely by volunteers. The campaign has raised about $9,200 in donations, and with expenses such as insurance, printing, and data services, $5 rent is a good deal.

“This office definitely legitimizes us,” said campaign leader Jasun Wurster. “Now we’re getting backing from business leaders, too.”

American Property Management, whose donation is listed in as an in-kind contribution of $795.83, owns apartments, storage facilities, and office and retail buildings throughout Portland.

If I tell APM I hate the gays, can I get an apartment for $5/month?

Another LOL turn to this "campaign." APM's going rate is $10-$15 per square foot per year for office rental space. Black eye on APM here, but for Wurster, his only realistic chance left is to accept any and all free hand-outs he can get.

Property managers "never lie". Especially about juicy items that could fuel a "news" media advertising frenzy.

You guys should change the background color to yellow when you post a piece like this.

Look out, mayor. They've got half-deflated floor balloons and covered furniture!

So I assume the $795 donation is for a single month. Loopnet.com reports the size of the space at 961 square feet and current asking rent in the building at $10 per square foot per year ($.83/foot/month). If they stay over one month that would put Joe Weston over the campaign's $1,000 limit for a single contributor. If the $795 figure is for multiple months it seems like a sweetheart deal, and I imagine there are rules that in kind contributions must be reported at their fair market value.

For those of you playing the home game, take a drink every time something "definitely legitimizes" the recall.

@ two squatting women

It's just like my nightmare . . . orange colored balloons limply bobbing this way and that while the damned wear a matching colored sleeves tee with cargo shorts and Chacos.

Hold me.

themme,

The real nightmare starts when you learn part of your (in)voluntary campaign duties are to pumice her Chaco corns.

You are held.

I notice the sensible people who regularily post in the Mercury melting pot cum pissing match seem to be out collecting signatures. Good for them.

It does make the tenor here rather acid monotone, without the normal balance of forces from the sane, the insane, the young, the old, the men, the women etc etc etc
