"Typical trashy Portland hipster/slacker house."

Posted by Matt Davis on Wed, Aug 12, 2009 at 2:46 PM

A reader looking to put together a photo shoot is looking for one of these as a "location." Since I live in a gentrified downtown condo with tasteful furnishings, I can't help personally. And most of my yuppie friends have homes straight out of Portland Spaces, of course. But I wonder if you might, you know...know anybody? Slim chance, of course. Still, email here, if you do. I feel like I am trying to score drugs. Polaroids/cellphone shots would help.

Matt,

How do you afford your "gentrified downtown condo" on your Mercury salary? All jokes about ass puppetry aside, methinks you are not paying your fair share to our disenfranchised neighbors.

NE 14th Place cul-de-sac at the intersection of NE Killingsworth. A billion custom junker bikes in the yard. Porch parties galore, complete with molding sofa on porch and a dirt patch yard. They also like to drink lots of PBR and leave the cans around the street when they are finished playing bike-polo. The inhabitants of the house have even installed a big field light to, you know, annoy the fuck out of the rest of the neighborhood when they have their night bike polo games. They were also the household that showed up to a neighborhood land use committee to suggest the City turn the end of the cul-de-sac into a "City Repair Project Tea Garden". My old timer African American neighbors, who suffer no fools, simply laughed their asses off at that one.

ExCityEmployee, sounds like a good candidate for a molotov cocktail. I've supposed you've learned by now that official channels offer neighbors very little help against these rats nests.

SE 28th and Ash. Hurry because they recently got evicted. About ten hipsters, some forced to sleep on the stairs, with a basement overflowing with fixies.

@Spartacus

I think it's a case of wifey having a good job and/or other financial resources. But you never know, once that sure-to-win-a-Pulitzer piece on Duffy Lucas is snapped up by some national media source for big bucks, Davis may start pulling his weight.

@spartacus, @jake: My Mercury salary is one million dollars a year, there is also my enormous trust fund, and my wife is a Vanderbilt. But you are absolutely right, Jake, because all of that pales into insignificance compared to the inevitable royalties, movie deals, Pulitzer, and so on, coming my way following tonight's Duffy Lucas interview.

The "DLI" is pretty much my ticket at this point.

Matt Davis walks into the Mercury office leaving a trail of gold coins that stuck to him while he was swimming in his vault o' treasures.

See Thurston Moore's photo book of punk houses. Any Reedie house will do, infact they're a sacred cow of sorts.

Or see Ronnie Reyes, just about to quit Black Flag show his crib at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3xrno3IkcMI about 4:15

Shhhhhh!!! I don't want no art trash shootin' films in my yard! Besides. I think they're looking for a place with a minimum of three fixie skeleton art installations on the lawn.
