Good Morning, News!!

Posted by Matt Davis on Mon, Aug 24, 2009 at 8:58 AM

SIT ON IT!!! The Facebook group urging city council to stop trying to "fix" the unconstitutional sit/lie law is now 267 strong, and plans a series of "sidewalk picnics" downtown today at noon. "Come on down today and join the 30+ of us who will be enjoying our lunch in lovely downtown Portland," writes organizer Chris O'Connor. "You pick the spot for yourself, but if you want to join me near SW Fifth and Morrison I may be able to hook you up with a chocolate chip cookie." Send us your photos.

Meanwhile local videographer Joe Anybody captures what he feels is police harassment of aggressive panhandlers on the sidewalk. I rather enjoyed seeing these kids get arrested, personally, but I'd be interested in your thoughts. Are they "menacing?" Are they "hoodlums?" Or...just douchebags? And what about the attitude of the cops? Professional, courteous, appropriate? What?

SOAPBOX MADNESS!!! The Sentinel has a great video report on the race this weekend.

OBAMA CONSIDERING ALTERNATIVE TO BIPARTISAN BILL??? See! He IS Hitler! God. The conservative press is doing its best to destroy him on this, but I will bet anybody a dollar that this bill goes through, and we get the reforms we need.

MADOFF HAS CANCER!!! Reports the New York Post.

PASTOR FOUND DEAD IN HER OWN CHURCH!!! In Oklahoma.

IT'S IMPOSSIBLE TO FIRE UNDERPERFORMING TEACHERS!!! Damn those unions. Yes, damn you, Frank Sobotka.

VENEZUELAN WINS MISS UNIVERSE!!! Again.

BASTERDS CRUSHES BOX OFFICE!!! "I think that may be my masterpiece."

REALITY TV "STAR" KILLS SELF!!! Prompting jaded producers to ponder a viable antithesis to SURVIVOR.

TEENAGE LOTTO WINNER NOW BROKE!!! Let that be a lesson to you.

HOMELESS MAN COMBUSTS!!! Cops Taser the guy. Fox gets a kick out of it.

Good day.

I'm sick of the mad max kids lounging around on the sidewalks, I'm sick of their fucking dogs, and the dog shit, I'm sick of them harassing me for change and getting all pissed off when I say "no". I give money to disabled vets, and others who obviously need it. I do not give it to these fucks who just ran away from home and live on the street to be in a pitbull mad max gang. Fuck that. I say harass them all you want, cops.

I'm intrigued but the new casual police wear.

I'm missing the point of this video, aren't I?

I'm with demondog. The police are doin their job. Though, it's completely obvious they have focused the "litter" law with the Mad Max kids. But it's also obvious they are trying to send a message to them that their behavior will not be tolerated around Pioneer Square. They can flick their cigs somewhere else and let let their dogs poop elsewhere, but anywhere near Pioneer ... and they get "the heat" on them.

Not hoodlums, just douchebags. If they really need money to feed their dog, save the money they spent on that tall can, the one that got them the open container ticket, and feed it! Quit asking me to feed your dog, I got a cat at home to feed bitch!

"... maybe open containers or something." Sheesh what a moron. I have to agree with meerkat and demon. I oppose sit-lie, I do not want it "fixed". This is exactly PPBs role, even if they are engaging in a little street theater themselves. If the "road warriors" are breaking the law arrest them, if they are not leave them alone. BTW Love the metal soundtrack, though I'd like to hear the Hannah Montana mix.
Hey I thought I was supposed to the bring cookies, guess I'll get a veg tray or some wraps.

I thought the horse was going to poop. Did I miss the poop? Did the tail raise, and I just sailed past it?

They are kind of douchebags, although my dream is to see a hipster interact with them. In any case, I like the t-shirt look for the cops. Very chill.

What would have happened if Joe put, like, a Vivaldi score in there instead of rock? Four Seasons maybe? So soothing...

1) The cops are blocking the sidewalk.

2) Can't they afford uniforms anymore?

Let me start by saying I seen no dog poop anywhere, in spite of comments referring to it? I did see lots-O-horse poop. I edited the big pile that I taped right after it dropped "on the sidewalk." The 8 man force parked on sidewalks, made pedestrians walk around (out into/on the max tracks) and then the t-shirt guys drove the wrong way down the Max line, The only poop was from the horse which was discarded in the bushes (don't try that with dog poop or you will get a ticket)... it stunk bad long after they were gone (but) the flies were buzzing around it and they reported that they like the residue. Not sure who broke what law in all this. The only law breaking "I seen" is recorded in the video, unless your above the law (in which case there is nothing in the footage) The mad max folks waved at me and were not aggressive nor rude. Actually the police were polite as well. I just think its a big waste of resources sending 3 horse 3 cars and 8 bodies to a mad max picnic.

Hey Matt -

Just curious...do you know what these guys were arrested for? Why in this case did you "enjoy" seeing these guys arrested...say...versus someone else? Could your own bias be revealed in your "enjoyment". Hmmmm

1) were that many police really necessary? 2) i'm surprised they didn't confiscate the camera claiming to be illegally filmed as Portland police are prone to do -- note: it is not illegal to film the police on the street as long as you do not interfere with their duties. it seems everyone has forgotten about the unconstitutional camera confiscation techniques of the Portland police bureau...

Jeez that music is awful.

Will someone please enlighten me about the difference between "offensive littering" and just plain ol' "littering".
