Call for Models: Portland Fashion Week

Posted by Marjorie Skinner on Tue, Aug 25, 2009 at 1:30 PM

Portland Fashion Week is coming up in a few short months (click that link if it's been a while... the web site's been redesigned, and it's better now) and they're looking for a few good models to walk the runway on a work-for-trade basis, with the added bonus of being splashed around in the media, becoming a permanent part of a rising designer's portfolio and of course, networking. I sure hope to see a lot of new faces and a variety! Here are the basic requirements:

Females:
MINIMUM 5'8" - 6'0"
DRESS SIZES 0-6
BRING HEELS

Males:
5'10" - 6'2"
Waist 28-32
Jacket Sizes Up to 42L

Open auditions are taking place this coming Sunday, August 30 at the Art Institute of Portland from 2-5 pm. You should also check out Project Green Search, a Greenloop-sponsored "green model" search that's working in symbiosis with PFW, and which offers some sweet prizes and opportunities for the winner.

Not what they meant by "green model," probably.

There is simply no way I'll be able to lose fifty pounds and grow an inch taller by the 30th. Damn! There goes my modeling career.

Will there be protests by the same folks pissed off about the PETA billboard?

I wonder if I can get away with wearing some riser heals. But I also question anything happening at the Art Institute. Maybe I just don't know enough about their corporate agenda.

Six feet tall and a size 6? ARE YOU KIDDING ME?

I'm 5'8" and thin, and I wear a size 8 on a good day.

Who are these people?

I'm 5'10" and size 4-6 without starving myself. People like me exist, and I consider myself incredibly fortunate. I think size 8 and 10 should be permitted though. If people are tall enough, that is still pretty skinny.

I am 5'6 and have an eating disorder, so I am unfortunately (for my health) thin enough but not tall enough. Several of the women I am in treatment with are planning to be involved in fashion week. For most women these sizes are not natural and it actually kills people. Interesting their are protests for animals rights, how about women's rights. I think Portland's fashion scene should be more creative than succumbing to the same repressive concepts about women's beauty. Let's do something radical and feature some diversity!

These people get amateurs to model for no-pay anyway so the best and thinnest won't be there. This is a podunk show no one cares about so don't get worked up about it.
