Politics What's Going On

We all know, or should know, what's going on here. The right wing media blowhards—the men who run the GOP's racist rump—are going to crank up the paranoid, race-baiting rhetoric until they succeed in pushing a deranged "patriot" over the edge and an attempt is made on the life of President Barack Hussein Socialist Hitler Racist Obama. If the assassination attempt is a success—God fucking forbid—the right wing will have succeeded in removing Obama from office by... what's that phrase again... oh, right: by any means necessary. And the country will be consumed by riots, which will have racial overtones, which the right-wing will point to as proof that they were right: black people, from the dead president on down, are dangerous and violent and coming to get you, white America! The GOP may benefit at the ballot box—because they're the law and order party, the "daddy party"—so why wouldn't these immoral fuckers go for it?

Getting the president killed is a win-win scenario for the Limbaughs, Drudges, Becks, Bachmanns, etc. Let's stop pretending that it's not what they're after.

You're going to catch a lot of flack for this (not that you're any stranger) but boy howdy are you not wrong. The stakes are being raised too high in the rhetoric and the discourse is so radically removed from reality it has just turned into mouth-foam.

Remember when we used to laugh and roll our eyes when the conservatives came up with wild, exaggerated and evidence-free claims about how us liberals were out to get them at any price, to impose our lifestyles upon them?

I think it was about two days ago...

You aren't right about this. When Kennedy was shot, the Republican party was crippled, and Johnson pushed through the Civil Right Act. When the President is shot, his party benefits, and those who called for his downfall lose out.

Not to mention that the FBI would come down like the hammer of god on any talkshow host who advocated for assassination.

Yeah, it really doesn't make much sense to off Obama - then you've got President Biden* and a grieving nation united behind the Democrat-controlled Congress.

* If the nuts get Biden too, then they've got President Pelosi!

While there's no question that all the crap scraped from the butts of the wing-nuts is racist, you're giving the God Squad too much credit. They're not very bright, but on some level they *know* that Obama is Bush-Milk Chocolate. Race riots? No, I don't think so; how about a class war, instead? Now, THERE is something to get the blood flowing....

My point is no one has any specific quotes they are referencing eric, aside from hysterics who hear people disagree with the president and knee-jerkingly scream RACIST without giving any evidence for their claims.

Rep. Lynn Westmoreland, a conservative Republican from Georgia, let slip today what critics have been saying is the subtext of many of the attacks on Barack Obama: He's "uppity." (Sept. 2008)


South Carolina GOP activist and former chairman of the state elections commission Rusty DePass has apologized for saying a gorilla that escaped from a zoo was an "ancestor" of Michelle Obama. (June 2009)

"specific quotes"? i'm too fucking lazy to look anything up, but just reading between the lines should be enough for any thoughtful, intelligent human.

i'm not going to say that Beck, Limbaugh, Dobbs, or any of the multitude of other conservative pundit douchebags are themselves racist, but they are certainly inciting and expanding the lunatic fringe of haters, and are walking a very fine line.

Dan, thanks for telling it like it is. Millions of white Americans want Obama dead because he is half black. I am ashamed to share a planet with those people, much less a race.

If the "god fucking forbid" scenario happens, I'm telling you right now you're going to have ONE PISSED OFF CRACKER ON YOUR HANDS. And I'm not talking about this impotent rage town hall tea party type bullshit, either. Race and class riots will be the least of it. I'll be ready for civil war.
