Sit/Lie Replacement Law Draft Online

Posted by Matt Davis on Mon, Oct 12, 2009 at 5:11 PM

Mayor Sam Adams has posted the draft replacement to the sit/lie law on his website. As reported in September, the mayor and City Commissioner Nick Fish have finally stood up to the Portland Business Alliance and their ilk and insisted on something constitutional and fair, that doesn't unfairly target homeless people. Our feedback so far is: Good job for sticking to it. The mayor is soliciting your feedback on his website.

Holy gosh, that is NOT what your feedback so far has been! You've posted nothing but strident "we're all going to die!" articles about this since they said they were going to rewrite the law! You never believed they'd come up with something constitutional this time, and gave them all kinds of shit for trying, as if "not have any law" was a real option.

The existing laws (without the sit/lie) are more than sufficient. This is a PR move.

The Mercury has in fact written in support of the city's new efforts and approach, so do some research before posting nonsense like your summary of all of the coverage.

"I for one am more encouraged than ever about the probable solution being proposed on these so-called "issues" being one that homeless advocates and civil rights groups can live with. It will be interesting to read the draft proposals as soon as they become available." - matt davis: http://blogtown.portlandmercury.com/Blogto…
