Say Goodbye to Starfucker. Say Hello to PYRAMID!

So after holding a contest for a new, cuss-free, moniker, local band Starfucker has picked a new name: PYRAMID. I guess the ALL CAPS thing is part of it. Take it away, press release:

Starfucker Announce New Name, PYRAMID!

It’s been an exciting year for Portland, OR’s favorite breakout band, Starfucker, and today is an exceptional day. Last month, just as the four-piece were poised to set sail on an extensive North American tour, they announced a name change contest that allowed fans to play a pivotal role in re-naming the band. After many votes and infinite good ideas, the guys have chosen PYRAMID as their new moniker. They will perform their last ever show as Starfucker at Portland’s venerable Wonder Ballroom on Halloween, so if you have a hankering for infectious beats and a costume contest judged by some of the members of the band, then look no further.

Yeah, that works. I'm not one to really care about band names, so Pyramid—er, PYRAMID—seems to fit the band's sound pretty well, especially if they keep with that rainbow graphic.

End Hits: EVERYTHING IS MORE IMPORTANT WHEN IT IS IN ALL CAPS!

I can't believe some label / promoter / etc is wringing their hands over "starfucker" after bands like The Fucking Champs, Fucked Up and plain old Fuck have existed for years. silly.

Is there a more fucked out and annoying indie rock trend than the ALL CAP BAND NAME? If there is, is it the melodica?

The Fucking Champs have to be my favorite "Fucking" band.

Anyway, Pyramid, not that that is a bad name at all, but it seems at least one other band is using it, plus it has been used a lot in the past from looking at allmusic.com.

There is also a "The Pyramids" too. Anyone know the depths of trademark law? Like, is it legal to have a band called "The Sonic Youths" or "The Sonic Youth"

I think all-caps is way better than all lower-case. (Ahem, RONTOM'S. Yeah, I wrote that shit in caps. What.)

The only uncharted case territory I can think of is to borrow from the computer programming world and use camelCase if your band has more than one word:

theFuckingChamps
sonicYouth

According to allmusic.com, seven bands have already been called Pyramid.

OK, I'm no enemy of bands making money, buuuuut...... wasn't the whole point of naming the band "Starfucker" to ensure that the band couldn't possibly become widely marketed?

Kind of dulls the edge a little bit, I'd say.

But then again, I'd say, who cares?

Are they changing into a YACHT cover band?

Lousy choice for a band name...

Myspace says there is a Joey Division too, sheesh! At this rate, maybe "sadfnkcenn33" isn't being used by someone for a band name.

Side note, there is a band of kids in the Philippines going by "Red Fang" and they sure suffer a lot of abuse for it in their youtube comments, my favorite:

nko138:
"Definitely change your name. The real Red Fang is a monster of beards and beer. They will annihilate this bullshit. "
