Good Morning, News!!

Posted by Matt Davis on Tue, Oct 20, 2009 at 9:39 AM

RANDY LEONARD WANTS TO BUY MADE IN OREGON SIGN!!! And change it to read "Portland." At least, that's what he says he wants it to say. This week.

A ROOF FOR PGE PARK??? Oh, goody! Can it say "Portland" on it, too?

APPLE PROFITS SURGE 47% And you bought stock. Right? Tell me you bought stock, already.

CEO PERKS BOOM AFTER BAILOUT!!! That would be the bailout organized by Hank Paulson. Father of Merritt Paulson, who is now seeking public money to build a baseball stadium in Beaverton, on top of the renovations to PGE Park, here in town.

PUBLIC OPTION BACK ON THE TABLE!!! What?! Really!?! Ah. States can "opt out." That'll be interesting. Might even start a civil war!

OREGON RURAL JOBLESS CLAIMS IMPROVE!!! Only because workers are giving up searching for employment. D'oh!

WHAT PRICE, FAME??? Multnomah County's library blogger contemplates Miley Cyrus's decision to quit Twitter.

GAY MOBSTER REGRETS HIS LIFE OF CRIME!!! Vito? Is that you?

ENDORSEMENT!!! Amanda Fritz endorses Lew Frederick for House District 43. But who will the Mercury endorse? We better decide. We've got to write the damned thing in half an hour.

Good day.

Amazing. You see that photo entitled "Rose Festival at Multnomah Stadium - 1930," notice how the kids are arranged in crosses? Bearing in mind the time, it's eery. Those crosses only need a little augmentation and they're ready to go, swastikas.

I love that the plot was originally a "chinese vegetable garden," too. How we've come full circle.

C'mon Randy, you know you want to put just your incredibly awesome surname on this sign. All the time city government has devoted to this issue cannot and must not be in vain.

Karol! Karol!

There's been a lot of talk about the need to add more diversity, encourage more young people to get involved, and provide role models for public service, but what's been missing in the conversation is just how style-deficient the Oregon Legislature is. Karol Collymore could go a long way toward addressing this.

Plus, she's smart, hard-working, and deeply knowledgable about issues critical to the district. I worked with her at NARAL Pro-Choice Oregon and would love to see her serve in Salem. She's a gifted communicator and a great choice for HD 43 (my district).

Matt,

The Don Garber comment about MLS perhaps moving to a schedule in line with Euro clubs was made almost 2 weeks ago. Since then it's been debunked numerous times and everyone has accepted it was just a nod to get Sepp Blatter, the President of FIFA, to shut up. MLS has about a snowballs chance in hell of moving to a winter schedule and PGE has a snowballs chance in hell of getting a roof. So don't worry about it.

@BlackedOut

So you're saying there's a chance?

Plus, of course, even if MLS did go to a winter schedule, PGE park wouldn't get a roof. Ever. It's like saying that because NFL takes place in winter, and a couple of the stadiums in really cold cities have roofs, then it's inevitable that Seattle's council will pay millions to put a roof on Qwest Field. Ain't going to happen.

Come on Matt, we all know how much you detest the idea of MLS in Portland, but at least come up with a cogent argument that a four-year-old can't drive a bus through the holes in.

Or are you just going for the Nigel Jaquiss memorial prize for journalism?

I'm more amazed he just found it. Failed journalist Jack Bogdanski mentioned it way back when. I guess it should come as no surprise the if you check his blog he's blogging about it again this morning. What did you call him Matt? Curmudgeon?

I would completely support a plan to change the sign to, "Welcome to Fort Randy"

Merritt Paulson's Stadium plans prominently display the title "phase 1." Is "Phase 2" the roof over the stadium, or is that planned for later in the publicly funded sports enterprise extortion game?

Phase 2 is Merritt Paulson packing up the moving trucks and leaving Portland.
