Kahl Endorses Collymore

Posted by Matt Davis on Tue, Oct 20, 2009 at 5:36 PM

State representative Nick Kahl has endorsed Karol Collymore in the increasingly contentious race for house district 43, along with city commissioner Amanda Fritz, who made her endorsement this morning. Update, Oct 21, 10:05am: Fritz endorsed Lew Frederick. Sorry—I agree with commenters that this intro was unclear. Back to the original post.

Kahl: At our Brewhaha event on urban renewal earlier this year.

Kahl says Collymore is "the only candidate with a tangible record of success in public policy," having worked for County Commissioner Jeff Cogen. "She's smart as heck, she's been working hard, she's done everything she needs to to win this seat," Kahl continues, adding that "there's been a lot of talk" about how the nomination process is decided—particularly because Frederick won the most votes from Democratic precinct captains. "I feel like that talk isn't entirely accurate," he continues. "The Multnomah County Commissioners get to decide."

The Mercury's super secret, mystery endorsement should hit the streets tomorrow night, in time for the County Commissioners' selection of a legislator on Thursday morning.

a, Amanda Fritz endorsed Lew - fix your story to make that clear, please. 2, precinct "captains" do not nominate anyone. there are no such things are precinct "captains" in Oregon. those were people who became precinct committee "people" (official title) and showed up to vote for the 3 nominees. people who took the time out of their lives to say who they wanted to replace Chip Shields in the House. you were there; it was an open process with a clear outcome.

and Nick is right: the Cmsrs do get to decide. that doesn't mean it's good system, however, because it's not. it needs to be changed asap.

and he is wrong about the "only" candidate with a tangible record of success, unless Lew's 30 years -- including his current service on the State Board of Education -- count for dick. is he really saying that about a citizen who has given that much of his life to public service?

Sad but true, tabarnhart. Lew Frederick's 30 yrs of service no longer count. Implicit in this particular snub of Mr. Frederick seems to be the acknowledgment that the "new" NE Portland no longer needs him.

Matt, your first sentence implies that Commissioner Fritz endorsed Karol Collymore, when she emphatically endorsed Lew Frederick.

Nick should have disclosed that he and Collymore have an intimate relationship. Nothing wrong with that, but she has a relationship with him that the other two candidates can not compete with.

VanSmack, please explain and elaborate on your statement that "Nick should have disclosed that he and Collymore have an intimate relationship."

What does that mean exactly?

Or are you just trying to talk (van)Smack to smear Collymore? Either way, vague accusations are BS without any details. Please disclose what the heck you mean here.

Thanks!

TA, Sue: Agreed. Sorry. That intro was unclear. Yesterday was our busy press day and I should have read it over an extra two times before posting. I've updated the intro.

VanSmack: I don't consider your allegations to be in the public interest and don't intend to follow up on them.

I'd feel better about Mr. Kahl's endorsement if he would deliver it while holding a wheelbarrow full of pennies.

This is basically a problem we see at Blue Oregon day in, day out: the low quality of anonymous comments. There's not an easy solution, but we're trying to work through it so anonymous shitweasels like VanSmack don't drive away other folks who get some value from the site.

VanSmack, whoever you are, not only are your accusations irrelevent, they are wrong. Collymore and Kahl are not in an intimate relationship and never have been. I don't know where you get your information, but it's not true and wrong of you to bring it up. I'm a very good friend of Karol Collymore's and a supporter of hers, just to be transparent here, but I really take offense to the idea that any candidate, particularly a young woman, gets an endorsement by sleeping with someone. That's a terrible accusation and you should be ashamed.

Good point, TA.

Also, I think what VanSmack was trying to say (though I cant be positive) is that Rep. Kahl and Collymore both moved from New Mexico to Portland around the same time (2003 or so) and then worked at Comm. Cogen's office, again, at the same time. They're buddies, I believe. But, my question is that I thought she lived with someone who worked for Stand for Children? She mentioned that in a BlueO blogpost. She doesn't have kids, right? That would start to explain why she got their endorsement over others. Besides, I thought Representative Kahl was openly gay? Seriously. I think they're just buddies.
