News / TV Brits Slam Ultra-Right Winger On TV

The British public have been outraged today over the appearance of British National Party leader Nick Griffin on a high-profile BBC show called Question Time. In Sarah Mirk's words, "I like British politics, they seem to say what they actually mean, instead of sticking to talking points." I agree. Young people would be so much more engaged in Oregon politics if only there were more zingers like these flying back and forth:


GRIFFIN: UNPOPULAR PANELIST

Griffin, whose party is predominantly supported by racist skinheads, has been seeking to exploit the recession and win more followers with its hard-line against immigration and of course, repeated holocaust denial. Griffin has been called all manner of names on Twitter this afternoon. The Guardian's website has been fascinating as the air-time has built up, too. This is the first footage to have emerged.

Where did you get the information that the majority of the BNP supporters are skinheads? I'd agree that to support the BNP you are likely a racist but not necessarily a skinhead. Are you adding the skinhead bit for effect? If you spend any decent amount of time in England these days (you are English, right?) you'll see there really aren't that many skins around at all. There's certainly not enough skinheads to vote two BNP's into the European Parliament. The fact is there's a lot of pissed-off white (trash) working-class people in England who are fed-up with the rest of the political parties and the economy that they'll start voting for the BNP and blame all their troubles on immigrants. Saying these people are predominantly skinheads is totally misleading, and baseless.
