Good Morning, News!!

Posted by Matt Davis on Tue, Dec 1, 2009 at 8:54 AM

STEVE OWES ME A DIME!!! I bet him the money yesterday that the Seattle cops would shoot Maurice Clemmons when they got him. No details on the incident as yet—and you can bet the inquiry into the shooting will move fast. It's even made the Sun. Even the commenters on Slogtown are pleased.

IT'S ALL MIKE HUCKABEE'S FAULT!!! Evidently he should have lynched Clemmons while he had the chance, if you listen to conservatives.

"I DID NOT HAVE AN AFFAIR WITH TIGER WOODS." Doth somebodyeth protesteth too mucheth? Eth?

OBAMA: 34,000 MORE TROOPS FOR AFGHANISTAN!!! They'll have a "new focus," too. On top of not getting killed.

DICK CHENEY: OBAMA PROJECTS WEAKNESS This, from a man with a pacemaker?

ALEC BALDWIN "DOESN'T HAVE ANY INTEREST IN ACTING, ANY MORE"!!! Although did he, ever? Say, there wouldn't be a contract renewal brewing for 30 Rock, by any chance?

GET THIN OR GET OUT!!! We're forcing our kids to take exercise classes. Good.

LET'S FIGHT ABOUT A GAY SEX VIDEOGAME THIS HOLIDAY SEASON!!! Not fit for teenage boys! Etcetera. God, why is America so fucking predictable?

JUDE LAW AND SIENNA MILLER ARE BACK TOGETHER!!! Although Jude Law would "stick his dick in a beehive," says Tyler Durden.

Good day.

Why is it a problem that Seattle Police shot this horrible man, Matt? Whether it was justified or not this horrbile monster was tied to the crime by many witnesses, cameras, and other proof. He did NOT deserve a trial at all.

If you want to be an opinion writer change your title, because that is ALL you write. EVERY article you try to pass as news is NOT news, it is opinion writing!

I'll just play the voice of reason here, and point out that dude was shot in the dark by a lone cop, the "evidence" that tied him to the shooting wasn't made public, the gun he supposedly had on him came from the crime scene... which may be true and on the up and up, but at this point we're just taking the cops' word for it that it's all legit. For all we know this could have been fabricated by police hungry for revenge. And hey, it probably will bear out that the guy was guilty in the end, he certainly was already a menace. However, barring any further developments, we'll never know what happened for certain, will we? None of us were there to witness what happened. All I'm saying is that nothing should be taken for granted. Right or wrong, you can't say that the cops didn't have a clear motive for taking this guy out rather than bringing him in alive, guilty or innocent. Police have been known to bend the rules from time to time.

You know what seems weird to me? Less than six hours after the initial shootings of the four officers, I was reading that the suspect was known to have made comments to the effect that he was going out to kill some cops & that his buddies should keep their eyes on the TV news. How did they find out that he allegedly said these things so quickly? Especially since he allegedly said them the night before he went out and killed the four officers. That there is some super-fast detecting.

@FIRE: Why is it a problem that Seattle Police shot this horrible man, Matt?

Because the 5th amendment to the constitution says it is. "...nor be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law." (And the 6th amendment spelled out exactly what that means: A jury, being told of the charges, etc.) The police are not allowed to just execute people, no matter how evil the person may be.

Now, I'm not going to argue that the police had a lot of good options for bringing him into custody alive, that it would have most likely been very very dangerous for the officers involved. However, I'm also not going to be happy that we just ignored 2 constitutional amendments because they got in the way.

However, at 3am it is hard to tell people apart, even if you know them better than a single mugshot, so I think the odds of them accidentally shooting the wrong person were excessively high. At the very least, I think the officer should have called for backup first. However, let me guess though: You aren't a "scruffy looking black guy," so you don't care about that part.
