Washington D.C. Legalizes Gay Marriage

Posted by Dan Savage on Tue, Dec 15, 2009 at 12:58 PM

The vote was 11 to 2 to bring marriage equality to our nation's capitol. Somewhere Maggie Gallagher is plotting/plotzing. I hope Newt Gingrich's third marriage can withstand this assault. The fine print courtesy of the Washington Post:

Before the bill goes to Mayor Adrian M. Fenty (D) for signing, it still must survive a 30-day congressional review period. To block the legislation, the Democratic-controlled House and Senate and President Obama would have to sign off on a disapproval resolution within 30 legislative days, which advocates say is not likely.
