Giant Hamster Wheel Appears at Reed College

Posted by Sarah Mirk on Fri, Dec 18, 2009 at 1:53 PM

Just in time for finals week, students at Reed installed a giant home-made hamster wheel in the student union building. The wheel looks to be about 12 feet tall and was apparently built by a student group called "Defenders of the Universe."

"It's built with Swiss precision. There's no wiggle to it," gushes Reed's Director of Strategic Communications Kevin Myers. He was not aware of plans to erect the hamster wheel before it went up earlier this week, but says it is superior to previous strange student installations in the space, including a sofa teeter-totter. "This things just sort of appear in the student union sometimes," says Myers.

And much like the Swiss, the hamster-wheel also hates Minarets and brown-skinned people.

Does it strike anyone as strange that the photo credit is to Reed? I think WE tipped off the Merc. just to show them how QUIRKY, and precise, we are.
